WOMEN’S GOLF FINISHES SIXTH AT DIII MIDWEST CLASSIC

HUDSON, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team finished sixth with 735 strokes at the DIII Midwest Classic this weekend.

The Blugolds shot 370 on the first day and 365 on the second day of the classic. Finishing one stroke ahead of the Blugolds was the College of St. Benedict, and Concordia College (Moorhead) finished one stroke behind the Blugolds.

Gustavus Adolphus College won the tournament for a second straight year by shooting a 661 (+93). They were challenged throughout the weekend by the second place finisher University of St. Thomas who finished with a score of 665 (+97). Wartburg College (Iowa) took a distant third place with their score of 686 (+118). Rounding out the top five was Luther College and the College of St. Benedict.

The Blugolds were led by Torie Ives (So.-Osseo/Osseo-Fairchild) with her score of 127 (+27). Ives score earned her an eighth place finish. Meghan Sobotta (Sr.-Arcadia, WI) was the next highest Blugold golfer. She finished with a score of 177 (+35) and took 19th place. Brianna Obermueller (So.-River Falls, WI) ended the weekend tied in 42nd place with four other golfers with a score of 188 (+46). Sarah Hansen (Sr.-Bangor, WI) and Katie Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, WI) also competed in the event. Hansen shot a 203 (+61) and Swift shot a 204 (+62).

Laura Heck of the University of St. Thomas and Rachel Roberg of Gustavus Adolphus College tied for first place with scores of 157 (+15).

The Blugold lady Golfers will hit the links again next Saturday, September 29 in the UW-Stevens Point Invitational.
