WOMEN’S GOLF DROPS TO 10TH AT IWU CLASSIC

NORMAL, Ill. – A day after being in a three-way tie for seventh, the UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team dropped to 10th out of 21 teams at the Illinois Wesleyan University Golf Classic.

The Blugolds shot a 339 today to place 10th with 669 total strokes. Olivet College (MI) and UW-Whitewater, who shared the seven spot with Eau Claire, moved to sixth and ninth, respectively.

The University of Southern Indiana held their lead with a 309 today, best in the event. They finished with 619 strokes. SIU-Edwardsville took second at 638 while UW-Stevens Point placed third on a 643 score. St. Ambrose University (IA) finished in fourth on a 651 effort while the home team took fifth with 653 strokes.

On the individual level, Meghan Sobotta (Sr.-Arcadia) carded a 73, which was the best round of the day. She took second with a 4-over-par 148, just one stroke behind Katie Tewell’s winning 147 score. The Franklin College (IN) leader bested 122 competitors in the event.

Torie Ives (So.-Osseo/Osseo-Fairchild) was the next Blugold, finishing in a tie for 32nd on 165 strokes. Bri Obermueller (So.-River Falls) had 177 strokes to tie for 80th. Katie Swift (Fr.-Onalaska) was the final point gainer for Eau Claire, shooting 179 and taking 85th.

The Blugolds have just one event before the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships. That event is the Division III Midwest Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
