WOMEN’S GOLF MOVES UP TO 13TH AT NATIONALS
WAVERLY, Iowa – With only one day left in the 2008 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships, UW-Eau Claire moved up to 13th place of 20 teams at Centennial Oaks Golf Club here today. After three days, Methodist University (N.C.) had another dominating performance with the tournament’s lowest total in a round (299) and stayed at the top of the leader board. Methodist is now 27 strokes ahead of the second place team with 915 strokes overall. Southwestern University (Texas) is in second with 942 total strokes, while DePauw University (Ind.) stayed in third with 945. Susan Martin of Methodist shot 75 today for a three-day total of 221 (+5). Stephanie Mingos of Rhodes College (Tenn.) is only two strokes out of first, however, after shooting 76 today. Meghan Sobotta (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.) again had the best round of the day for Eau Claire, improving five shots over the first two days for 73 strokes (+1) today. She now has a total of 229 and is tied for ninth place overall. Torie Ives (So.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) also showed improvement today, shooting 78 for the day for a three-day total of 244 to move up to being tied for 39th. Bri Obermueller (So.-River Falls, Wis.) improved by six strokes for 82 today (255 overall) and is tied for 83rd place. Sarah Hansen (Sr.-Bangor, Wis.) shot 85 on the day for 263 overall (tied for 94th) while Katie Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) had 88 for 260 through three rounds of play and is tied for 90th place. Tomorrow the Blugolds will finish up with the final day of the championships at Centennial Oaks Golf Club. Results - KM -
