WOMEN’S GOLF FINISHES IN A SIXTH PLACE TIE
NORMAL, Ill. – After staring the second day of competition at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Spring Fling in fifth place, the UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team tied for sixth place with St. Mary’s College (Ind.) at the end of the final day of the tournament. The Blugolds shot a 334 for on the final day of competition which gave them a grand total of 659 strokes for the weekend. Illinois Wesleyan University won the tournament with a final score of 638. DePauw University (Ind.) took second place after blowing a seven stroke entering the final day. Third place belonged to William Woods University (Mo.) with 651 strokes. Olivet College (Mich.) and St. Ambrose University (Iowa) wrapped up the top five in fourth and fifth place respectively. Meghan Sobotta (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.) turned in the most impressive performance of any Blugold shooting a 153 for the weekend. Sobotta score of 153 was only two strokes off the leader and earned her a third place finish. Sobotta shot a 75 on the first day of competition and 78 on the second day. Sobotta was the only Blugold to finish in the top twenty. The individual title was split by Meagan Brennan of Ohio Northern University and Amanda Sanders of Olivet College. Torie Ives (So.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) held the same position at the end of day two as she did at the end of day one as she tied for 22nd overall. Ives shot a 165 in the two day tournament. Brianna Obermueller (So.-River Falls, Wis.) shot a 170 and finished in a tie for 42nd place. Sarah Hansen (Sr.-Bangor, Wis.) finished in a tie for 47th, and Katie Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) finished in a tie for 72nd place. The women’s golf team will wrap up its spring season next weekend when they host The Blugold Spring Invitational. The tournament takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Wild Ridge Golf Course.
