FIRST DAY OF NATIONALS COMPLETE FOR WOMEN’S GOLF

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FL – The UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team started the four-day NCAA Division III National Championships with a seventh-place effort at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort.

The sixth-ranked Blugolds have a +52 344 score to take seventh out of 20 teams. Methodist College (NC) is first with 303 while Gustavus Adolphus College (MN) is second at 332. DePauw University (IN) sits in third at 336 strokes. St. Thomas (MN) is the sixth place team two strokes ahead of Eau Claire.

Methodist College’s Charlotte Williams leads after shooting a one-over 74 on the par-73 course that measures 5,830 yards. There are 111 golfers participating.

Torie Ives (Fr.-Osseo/Osseo-Fairchild) is the top Blugold golfer after day one with an 84 that ties her for 25th. Meghan Sobotta (Jr.-Arcadia) shot an 86 to tie for 34th. She recorded three birdies, most for the team

Both Bri Obermueller (Fr.-River Falls) and Jesse Thompson (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) tied for 40th on rounds of 87. Kate Borman (Fr.-Kenosha/Bradford) had a 100 to tie for 96th.
