WOMEN’S GOLF IN THIRD AFTER FIRST ROUND

NORMAL, IL – The UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team finds itself sitting third out of 15 teams after day one at the Illinois Wesleyan University (IL) Spring Fling, the Blugold’s first spring meet.

The Blugolds shot 330 in the first day. Lindsey Wilson College (KY), ranked third in the NAIA, has 327 strokes to lead while UW-Stevens Point has 329. Robert Morris College (IL) has a 341 tally while the home school rounds out the top five with a 342.

The Blugolds are ranked seventh in the coaches’ poll, the Titans eighth, and the Pointers ninth.

Krista Burton from Lindsey Wilson College leads all 92 golfers with a three-over 74 on the 5,908-yard course.

Torie Ives (Fr.-Osseo/Osseo-Fairchild) is the top Blugold so far with a 79 score. She is in fourth place. Jesse Thompson (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) is tied for seventh with an 82. Meghan Sobotta (Jr.-Arcadia) is one shot behind Thompson and tied for 13th. Bri Obermueller (Fr.-River Falls) hit 86 to tie for 25th.

The invite will wrap up tomorrow at Ironwood Golf Course.
