WOMEN'S GOLF IN FIFTH AFTER FIRST DAY OF WHITEWATER INVITE

WHITEWATER - Day one of the UW-Whitewater Invitational is through and Eau Claire finds itself in fifth place out of the 17 teams.

The Blugolds shot 338 on the day, one behind fourth place Carthage College. Ahead of Carthage is Illinois College while Illinois Wesleyan is in the runner-up spot. Unfortunately, rival UW-Oshkosh is in first with 316 strokes.

The leading golfer for Eau Claire is Maggie Loney (Sr.-River Falls) at 78 and 6 over the par of 72. This gives her a tie for sixth. Meghan Sobotta (So.-Arcadia) hit an 83 on the course and is in a tie for 17th. Third for Eau Claire is Kim Huber (So.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) who is tied for 35th overall at 88. Jesse Thompson (Jr.-Plover/SPASH) hit 89 for the day and tied for 40th, while Noelle Weber (So.-Onalaska) rounds out the crew with a 94 and a tie for 62nd.

Eau Claire looks to move up as the tournament concludes tomorrow in Whitewater and is the last regular season event for women's golf.
