WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO TAKE ON TITANS
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team hosts UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday and looks to rebound from their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) loss to UW-Whitewater last Saturday. The Blugolds are ranked 20th in the D3hoops.com poll and currently share the top spot in WIAC Standings with UW-Whitewater with a 10-1 WIAC record. UW-Oshkosh is 4-7 in WIAC play and 9-11 overall. Oshkosh is coming off a loss to UW-Stout on Saturday in Menomonie. Stout beat Oshkosh 79-60. In their last meeting on January 16, the Blugolds beat Oshkosh 62-54 in Oshkosh. Michelle Burns (Sr.-Eau Claire, WI/North) scored 24 points and Heidi Arciszewski (Jr.-Thorp, WI) had 16 points. The Blugolds had a 9-0 run early that put them ahead for good. Oshkosh would threaten that lead in the second half, but the Blugolds battled to increase their lead to double digits. Coming into Wednesday’s game, the Blugolds are shooting 45 percent from the field and the Titans are shooting 40 percent from the field. The Blugolds average 67 points per game and give up 55 points per game. The Titans score an average of 58 points per game and give up an average of 60 points per game. Arciszewski leads the Blugolds in scoring, averaging 14 points per game. Burns averages 13.4 points per game and 5.7 rebounds. Heather Witt (Jr.-Kendall, WI/Royall) is averaging 9.3 points per game and leads the team in steals (55) and assists (70). Whitney Tyriver leads the Titans in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game. She also leads in rebounds, assists, and steals. The game is set for Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Zorn Arena. -SB-,
