WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BLOWS OUT YELLOWJACKETS

SUPERIOR - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team held the Yellowjackets to just 13 first half points en route to defeating UW-Superior 93-39 here tonight at Clough Gates Gymnasium.

The win improves the Blugold's unbeaten record to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play while the Yellowjackets drop to 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in WIAC action.

Eau Claire dominated the field goal percentage battle hitting nearly 56 percent from the floor while Superior was held to just under 18 percent for the game. The Blugolds also held a 68-23 rebounding advantage including a 49-15 edge on the defensive glass.

The Blugolds started the game on a 12-0 run and held the Yellowjackets scoreless for the first four minutes and 55 seconds of the game. Eau Claire eventually took a 25-3 lead with 10:39 remaining in the first half which led to a 38-13 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime.

Eau Claire remained hot in the second half hitting nearly 71 percent of its shots from the floor and holding the Yellowjackets to just 20.6 percent shooting. The Blugolds put 55 points on the board in the second half to Superior's 26 en route to the 93-39 victory.

All but two Blugolds finished the game with at least four points led by Kristi Channing (Sr-Fall Creek) who scored 14 on 6-of-11 shooting. Channing also grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with two steals and two blocks. Brooke Wozniak (Jr-Stanley/Stanley-Boyd) contributed eight points and 11 rebounds for Eau Claire while Becca Spaeth (Jr-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi) and Liz VanDrasek (Fr-St. Michael, MN/St. Michael-Albertville) each contributed nine in the Blugold victory.

Eau Claire will take a well deserved 10 day break and resume action Saturday, December 21 when they will travel to Brookings, South Dakota to battle South Dakota State University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
