VOLLEYBALL CONTINUES WINNING WAYS AGAINST EAGLES

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team won its fifth game in a row after defeating the 14th-ranked UW-La Crosse Eagles 3-0 today at the McPhee Physical Education Building.

The game scores were 30-25, 30-27, and 30-23. The Blugolds hit .372 the first game compared to La Crosse’s .256. The Blugolds continued to hit well the second game with a .320 mark. La Crosse again hit a .256 mark. The third game both teams hit poorly. The Blugolds hit .079 and La Crosse hit .133.

Eau Claire now moves to 6-2 and third place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and 18-7 overall. La Crosse is now 3-4 and fifth in the WIAC and 20-8 overall.

Abby Freiborg (Jr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) led the Blugolds with 14 kills. Rachel Ver Voort (Fr.-Madison, WI/Middleton) and Katie Fox (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi) also helped out. Ver Voort had 12 kills and Fox had 11 kills. Emily Haese (Jr.-Mishicot, WI) had 52 assists for the Blugolds. Eau Claire had 54 kills compared to La Crosse’s total of 41. Eau Claire also had nine team aces with Lindsey Smith (So.-Maple Lake, MN) having four individually. Freiborg also had 22 digs on defense. Heather Harnell (Sr.-Minnetonka, MN) also chipped in 18 digs.

Eau Claire finished the week at 3-0. The Blugolds beat two ranked teams in 10th-ranked St. Thomas and 14th-ranked La Crosse.

The Blugold volleyball team now heads to the Elmhurst Tournament on Friday, October 26 against Marian at 6 p.m and Wheaton at 8 p.m. The Elmhurst Tournament also runs on Saturday, October 27.
