2006 UW-EAU CLAIRE VOLLEYBALL ANNOUNCES ROSTER

UW-Eau Claire volleyball head coach Lisa Herb has announced her 2006 roster, which includes 13 letterwinners and six starters from last year's NCAA Tournament squad that went 30-5, reaching the 20-win mark for the seventh consecutive season.

There are 21 members on this year's squad, five of which are seniors, led by setter Carly Freiborg (Sr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West). Freiborg was an honorable mention All-WIAC selection last season and led the conference in assists per game (12.46). Carly's younger sister Abby Freiborg (So.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) also returns for her sophomore season after being named the Team's Rookie of the Year in 2005. Senior libero Shanna Berger (Sr.-Baldwin/Baldwin-Woodville) also returns. Berger has been selected to the All-WIAC Defensive team the last two seasons.

Seniors Jessica Groh (Sr.-Eau Claire/North), Ashley Danielson (Sr.-Cadott, WI), and Jodi Dunbar (Sr.-Platteville, WI) will add experience to the squad.

Seven freshman makeup this year's team. Cary Rasmussen (Fr.-Sparta, WI) and Lindsey Smith (Fr.-Maple Lake, MN) lead the incoming freshman class. Both were two-time first team All-Conference selections in high school.

Four of the seven freshmen are from the Chippewa Valley: Anna Goebel (Fr.-Gilman, WI), Cassie Hunt (Fr.-Chippewa Falls, WI/McDonell), Gabby Manny (Fr.-Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-HI) and Kelly Stage (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial). Liz Wall (Fr.-Madison, WI/La Follette) is the other freshman in this year's class.

The Blugolds will look to improve from their 2005 finish. Last season, the Blugolds reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament before being defeated by eventual National Champion UW-Whitewater in five games. The Blugolds led the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in hitting percentage (.276) and were in top three in the conference in assists, kills, blocks, and service aces.

Head coach Lisa Herb enters her 22nd season with UW-Eau Claire and is third among active NCAA Division III coaches with 759 wins. She is first among all active WIAC coaches in wins with 596 victories.
