BRACKET SET FOR NCAA SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – With all NCAA Division III Softball Regional Championships complete, the NCAA has released the bracket for the upcoming national championship that will start this Friday in Salem, Va.

Eight teams, including UW-Eau Claire, remain and will complete for the national title in a five-day, double-elimination championship, hosted by the City of Salem and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The tournament will be held from May 16-20 at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex.

The eight teams headed to Virginia are UW-Eau Claire, UW-Whitewater, Lynchburg College (Va.), Muskingum College (Ohio), Ithaca College (N.Y.), Cortland State College (N.Y.), Rhode Island College and Louisiana College.

Eau Claire (32-11) will be the No. 3 seed in the national championship tournament and will face No. 6 seed Ithaca (34-10) at 4 p.m. Eastern time on Friday. The winner will advance to play again at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, while the loser will compete at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Blugolds are making their second straight and fourth overall appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championship. Last season Eau Claire had its highest finish ever, a third place finish, while the team finished fourth in 1999 and 2000.
