LEISGANG NAMED LOUISVILLE SLUGGER/NFCA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

STARKVILLE, Miss. – UW-Eau Claire softball infielder Casey Leisgang (Sr.-Seymour, Wis.) has been named the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Player of the Week, the association announced today.

Leisgang led the seventh-ranked Blugolds on their spring break trip in Tucson, Arizona to an 8-1 record between Monday and Friday last week. The team also played three additional games to start the trip on Saturday and Sunday (March 15 & 16) making its entire trip record 10-2. The NFCA only considered stats for the team’s nine games, played Monday through Friday, however.

Leisgang started all nine games and appeared at the plate 29 times. Leisgang batted well, accumulating 18 hits, including three doubles, two triples and a home run, for a .621 average. She picked up 15 runs and five RBIs. In the Blugolds’ 9-1 win over Lakeland College on Wednesday, Leisgang was walked four times, three of them intentionally, and scored three times in that game alone. In an extra inning game against Delaware Valley College, Pa. on Monday, Leisgang homered, bringing in two runs for the Blugolds to help lift the team to a 12-8 victory.

Leisgang’s selection as national player of the week is a first for head coach Leslie Huntington during her seven seasons with the Blugolds.
