BLUGOLDS HOST NCAA SOFTBALL REGIONAL

The NCAA has named UW-Eau Claire as a host for a seven-team fastpitch softball regional this weekend.

Competition will take place Thursday through Sunday at Gelein Field in Carson Park. Game times and ticket prices will be announced at a later time.

The field will include UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, St. Norbert College from the Midwest Conference, Augustana College and Illinois Wesleyan University from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, Coe College from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the University of Chicago from the University Athletic Association.

Oshkosh, which is 34-9 on the season, is the No. 1 seed followed by Illinois Wesleyan (31-12), Augustana (30-12), Chicago (25-9), Coe (26-10), Eau Claire (31-12) and St. Norbert (20-12).

The first round matchups have Chicago vs. Coe, Augustana vs. Eau Claire and Illinois Wesleyan vs. St. Norbert. Oshkosh will get a bye and face the Chicago-Coe winner in its first game on Thursday.

A total of 59 teams were named by the NCAA for the Division III tournament with eight regionals set across the country. The regional winners advance to the NCAA Championships at Salem, Virginia, May 18-22.
