SOFTBALL SPLITS PAIR OF 2-0 DECISIONS IN REBEL GAMES
KISSIMMEE, Florida - The UW-Eau Claire softball team split a pair of 2-0 decisions in the Rebel Games here Monday. The Blugolds lost to Washington & Jefferson of Pennsylvania in the first game, then beat Mount Vernon Nazarene of Ohio to improve their season record to 7-3. Washington & Jefferson boosted its record to 4-2 while Mount Vernon Nazarene dropped to 1-3. Junior Mallory McKinney (Brooklyn Park, MN/Champlin Park) threw a four-hit shutout in the Blugold win. Andrea Neuville (Sr.-Green Bay/West) and Bri Sturm (Fr.-Zumbrota, MN/Zumbrota-Mazeppa) combined to yield just four hits against W&J but their teammates could not generate any timely hitting. Washington & Jefferson scored single runs in the top of the third and the seventh to earn its victory. The Blugolds collected seven hits in the loss with McKinney, Jill Janke (So.-Black River Falls) and Mandy Tschernach (Jr.-Rice Lake) rapping two apiece. In the win over MVN, Casey Leisgang (So.-Seymour) and Shannon Barone (Jr.-De Pere) each belted a double with Leisgang plating one run. Rachel Paulus (Jr.-Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) rapped two of the Blugolds' six hits. Steph Salter (Sr.-Schofield/D.C. Everest) and Barone scored the Blugold runs. The Blugolds will have a day rest Tuesday, then return to action against Colorado College and nationally-ranked Endicott (MA) Wednesday. The Blugolds are ranked No. 16 in the NFCA preseason poll.
