KISSIMMEE, Florida - The UW-Eau Claire softball team won its first two games at the Rebel Games in Florida Sunday. The Blugolds edged Allegheny College, 2-1, and then downed Western Connecticut State, 5-3, in nine innings to boost their season record to 6-2. Casey Leisgang (So.-Seymour) rapped a two-run triple in the fifth inning and Mallory McKinney (Jr.-Brooklyn Park/Champlin Park) tamed Allegheny on two hits with nine strikeouts and no walks to lead the win over Allegheny. The Pennsylvania school scored an unearned run in the second and held that lead until Leisgang's big blow in the fifth. Jill Janke (So.-Black River Falls) led a seven-hit Blugold attack with two hits including a double. Shannon Barone (Jr.-DePere) rapped a bases-loaded triple in the top of the ninth to lead the Blugolds past Western Connecticut. Freshman Bri Sturm (Zumbrota, MN/Zumbrota-Mazeppa) picked up the decision on the mound, scattering seven hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. The Blugolds, ranked No. 16 in the NFCA preseason poll, are scheduled to face Washington & Jefferson, Pennsylvania and Mt. Vernon Nazarene, Ohio Monday.
