PLANERT AND STEWARD TOP BLUGOLD ALL-CONFERENCE LIST

MADISON - Emilee Planert (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) and Beth Steward (Jr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi) were both named to the 2003 All-WIAC Softball First Team while three other Blugolds received honorable mention, it was announced today by WIAC Sports Information Director Matt Stanek.

Pitchers Kim Czapla (Sr.-Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) and Andrea Neuville (Fr.-Green Bay/West) and infielder Jannah Grinnell (Sr.-Delano) were given honorable mention for their outstanding play this season.

Planert earns her second First Team nomination in as many years as she finished third in the conference with a batting average of .426. Her 40 hits and .450 on base percentage was tops on the Blugold roster while she finished second on the team with five stolen bases.

Steward earns her first All-WIAC bid, finishing second in the conference with 12 doubles. She also finished in the top ten in both RBI and home runs as she placed sixth with 24 RBI and seventh with five home runs.

Czapla had a solid year for the Blugolds inside the circle as she made 19 starts and notching 16 complete games, including a 13 inning 1-0 victory over UW-Stout on the first day of the WIAC Softball Championships. Czapla finished 8-12 with a 3.68 ERA while pitching more than 141 innings and striking out 98 hitters.

Neuville earns honorable mention in her rookie season for the Blugolds as she finished with a record of 5-7 with a 3.21 ERA in 14 appearances, including 12 starts. The freshman pitched 68 innings and recorded eight complete games. Her season was highlighted by her first career collegiate win, a six inning no hitter over Concordia.

Grinnell earns honorable mention in her senior season for the Blugolds and proved very beneficial as she knocked in 24 RBI, tied for the Blugold lead. Grinnell also finished amongst the conference leaders in home runs as she totaled eight while hitting .299. She also pounded out six doubles while having a team high in walks with 13.
