SOFTBALL TOPS CONCORDIA IN NO HIT FASHION
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Andrea Neuville (Fr-Green Bay/West) earned her first collegiate victory in style with a six inning no hitter as the Blugolds topped Concordia 8-0 here today at the Augustana Invitational.
The Blugolds improve to 7-10 with the victory and remain at 1-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The game was supposed to be the first of two the Blugolds played on the day but the final round of action was cancelled due to poor weather.
Neuville pitched a gem as she allowed no runs on no hits while fanning nine batters and walking four. The Blugolds posted eight runs on 10 hits while committing two errors.
Rhianna Jacobs (Fr-Austin, MN) and Beth Steward (Jr-Chippewa Falls) provided some firepower for the Blugold offense as they each homered off the Concordia pitcher. Jacobs finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored while Steward ended the day 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
2002 All-Conference First Team member Emilee Planert (Jr-Eau Claire/North) had a big day, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and an RBI. Jannah Grinnell (Sr-Delano) and Megan Richardson (So-Wisconsin Rapids/Assumption) each totaled an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Eau Claire is scheduled to resume action this Wednesday with a home match up against St. Thomas. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Carson Park.
