SOCCER LOOKING TO KEEP WINNING STREAK ALIVE

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s soccer team is looking to improve on its 6-0-1 record this week when it takes on Carleton College in a non-conference game and UW-Whitewater in a conference game.

Carleton (4-3-0) finished last season ranked 9th in the central region (NSCAA/Adidas). The Knights participated in the MIAC playoff title match against Concordia-Moorhead and lost on a penalty kick. They returned 18 of 21 players, including 9 of 11 starters.

Eau Claire is looking to stay undefeated at home with the help of leading goal scorers Amy Smith (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Thomas Jefferson), Haelee Maurer (Fr.-Appleton, WI/West), and Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, MN) each with three goals on the season.

Kooistra and Smith each have a game-winning goal on the season and Smith and Maurer are leading the team with three assists.

Goalie Allie Rivard (Jr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) has 13 saves allowing only two goals for the Blugolds.

On Saturday Eau Claire will travel to Whitewater to take on the Warhawks (6-3-1) on the season. The Blugolds beat the Warhawks last season when the team scored a season-high six goals and won 6-1.

The Blugolds are 15-2-1 all-time against Whitewater and have not lost against a WIAC opponent since a 3-0 loss to UW-Stevens Point in 2004.

The Blugolds will take on Carleton at 4:00 on Wednesday September 26 at the Bollinger Fields. The Blugolds will travel to UW-Whitewater on Saturday for a 1:00 game against the Warhawks.
