BLUGOLDS SHUT DOWN AUGSBURG

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – After winning their season opening game at home on Friday, the Blugolds notched another win, defeating Augusburg College 3-0.

The game started out slow, with neither team scoring a goal until almost half way through the first period. Off a corner kick from Sam Krueger (So.-Elkhorn, WI), midfielder Jessica Millard (Jr.-Madison, WI/La Follette) scored her second goal of the season with a header 21 minutes into the game.

The Blugolds were able to act quickly again, scoring another goal five minutes later. This time, Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, MN) was able to put it in the goal off a pass from Haelee Maurer (Fr.-Appleton, WI/West). The goal is also Kooistra’s second goal of the season.

The final goal of the night came in the second period, about 15 minutes in. Allison Smith (Bloomington, MN/Thomas Jefferson) scored the goal on a free kick from 25 yards out.

The Blugolds out-shot the Auggies 26-6, with 12 of the Blguold shots being on goal, while only four of Augsburg’s shots were on goal. Allie Rivard (Jr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) was able to stop all the shots on goal, playing goalkeeper for the entire 90 minutes.

The 15th ranked Blugolds have never lost to Augsburg. They are 9-0-2 all-time against the Auggies, with ties in 2005 and 1997.

Up next, the Blugolds will travel to non-conference opponent Concordia-Moorhead. The game is scheduled for 5 pm on Friday, September 7.
