KOOISTRA BRINGS HOME HIGHEST FINISH FROM NATIONALS

ADA, Ohio – At the final day of the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn.) had the highest finish for the UW-Eau Claire track and field team, as both the men and women completed competition today.

In the 400-meter dash, Kooistra advanced to the finals on Friday with the third fastest time and took home second place in the finals today. She finished with a season-best 56.27, the fourth fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. Rachel Anderson of Illinois Wesleyan won the event with an NCAA season-best and facility record 55.66.

Both the Blugold men and women competed in the championship’s final events, the 4x400-meter relays. The women’s team made up of Corrina Saager (Fr.-Wausau, Wis./East), Maria Peloquin (Fr.-Prescott, Wis.), Laura Broner (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Kooistra took home seventh place with a time of 3:56.38. The men’s team of Tim Braunschweig (So.-Mukwonago, Wis.), Brian Christ (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.), Chris Kupfer (Jr.-Germantown, Wis.) and Justin White (So.-Arcadia, Wis.) finished in eighth place with a 3:22.33. Illinois Wesleyan took the top spot on the women’s side with a time of 3:52.12, while La Crosse won the men’s relay with a time of 3:19.67.

Next Saturday the Blugolds will begin their outdoor season at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
