MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD TAKES SIXTH AT INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field team finished in sixth at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championships off 68.5 points.

UW-La Crosse took the crown with 137.5 points while UW-Whitewater was runner up with 125 points. Third went to UW-Oshkosh and its 104.5 points while UW-Platteville’s 101.5 took fourth. UW-Stevens Point finished fifth with 100 points in front of Eau Claire. The Blugolds beat UW-Stout and its 26 points while UW-River Falls took eighth on 23 points. UW-Superior had 16 points to round out the WIAC teams.

The Blugolds did well on the track. The 4x200-meter relay squad took the top spot with a 1:30.85 race. The 4x400-meter relay team was fourth at 3:24.07.

Zach Lee (Fr.-Ladysmith) was sixth in the 55-meter dash on a 6.56 time and Frankie Adams (Jr.-Burnsville, MN) was seventh in 6.61. Chris Wirtz (So.-Weston/Schofield D.C. Everest) had a 4:19.43 race for sixth in the 1-mile run. In the 800-meter run, Tony Carr (Jr.-Menomonie) took seventh at 1:57.20. Eighth place in the 55-meter hurdles went to Patrick Keyes (Fr.-Ham Lake, MN/Blaine) and his 8.18 time.

Several Blugolds took top places on the track. Sam Johnson (Jr.-Deer Park/Amery) had a fourth-place weight throw on 16.80 meters. Andrew Storsveen (Fr.-Winona, MN) finished eighth in the high jump on a 1.86-meter leap. Dan Pederson (Sr.-Boyceville) had an eighth-place showing in the triple jump with 13.54 meters.

Three Blugolds placed in the top eight of the heptathlon. Matt Crosby (Sr.-Glenwood City) was second at 4,549 points. Fifth went to Josh Boehm (Sr.-Mosinee) and his 4,407 points. Nate Woodward (So.-De Pere) was eighth with 4,102 points.

Eau Claire has one qualifier before the national championships. The UW-Stevens Point Qualifier begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
