MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD TAKES FOURTH AT WHITEWATER INVITE

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field finished in fourth out of 20 teams today at the UW-Whitewater Invite.

The Blugolds scored 74.50 points in their fourth place finish. Stevens Point won the invite with a score of 124 and Whitewater took second with a score of 112.50. Platteville completed the invite in third place scoring 103.50 and Carroll College took fifth with 38.50 points.

Sam Johnson (Jr.-Deer Park, Wis./Amery) was the only first place finisher for the Blugolds today, competing in the weight throw. He took first with a throw of 17.23 meters, an NCAA provisional qualifier score.

Three other Blugolds finished in third place at the invite. Brent Kann (So.-Rice Lake, Wis.) finished with a time of 8:50.59 in the 3,000-meter run for his third place finish. Chris Wirtz (So.-Weston, Wis./Schofield D.C. Everest) was also another third place finisher, finishing with a time of 5:15.85 in the 5,000-meter run. Kirk Schmidt (So.-Athens, Wis.) was the only other third place finisher, jumping 13.36 meters in the triple jump.

In the shot put, Al Oleson (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./West) took fourth place, throwing 14.94 meters. Adam Flyte (So.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) also had a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.25. In the 55-meter dash, Zach Lee (Fr.-Ladysmith, Wis.) was able to finish fourth with a time of 6.56.

Up next the Blugolds will be in the Warren Bowles Open in Menomonie. The meet will begin at noon on Saturday.
