MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD WINS CARLETON RELAYS
NORTHFIELD, MN – The UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field team scored 118 points to win the 18-team Carleton Relays held here today at Laird Stadium. The Blugolds defeated an array of teams representing NCAA Division I, II and III. St. John’s (MN) finished second with 109.5 points followed by St. Thomas (MN) with 105 points. Minnesota State-Mankato finished fourth with 87 points followed by UM-Duluth with 85 points. Ryan Brohmer (Sr.-La Crosse/Logan) won first place in the hammer throw with a NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 180-7. The throw eclipsed Brohmer’s season best throw of 179-7 set last week at the Blugold Open. Brohmer also finished third in the discus with a toss of 140-7. Kirk Schmidt (Fr.-Athens) placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 44-9.75. Joe Felber (So.-Manitowoc/Lincoln) finished just behind Schmidt in third place with a jump of 44-6.75. Three Blugold sprinters finished 3-4-5 in the 200-meter dash led by Adam Sturgis (Sr.-Bruce) who finished third in a time 23.36 seconds. Justin White (Fr.-Arcadia) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash clocking in at 49.94 seconds. The Blugolds also had a strong showing from its relay teams as five different relays posted top-three finishes. The 4 x 400 relay team finished in first place with a time of 3:23.67. The 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams both finished second while the 4 x 800 and 4 x 1,600 relays each finished in third place. Next weekend the Blugolds will travel to Hillsdale, Michigan to compete in the Gina Relays hosted by NCAA Division II Hillsdale College. Competition will take place on Friday and Saturday April 27-28. Complete Results
