MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD TAKES RAIN-SHORTENED VIKING OLYMPICS

ROCK ISLAND, IL – The UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field squads put up 114 points to win Augustana’s Viking Olympics before it was called off due to weather.

Augustana College (IL) took second behind the Blugolds with 108 points. Monmouth College (IL) finished third at 76 points. Fourth-place Loras College (IA) managed 71.5 points while Lincoln College (IL) wrapped up the top five on 46.5 points.

Joe Felber (So.-Manitowoc/Lincoln) was the only Blugold champion today with a 13.69-meter (44’11”) leap in the triple jump. Kirk Schmidt (Fr.-Athens) had 13.36 meters (43’10”) in the same event for fourth.

In the high jump, Andrew Kling (So.-Marshfield) leapt 1.93 meters (6’4”) and Nate Woodward (Fr.-De Pere) cleared 1.90 meters (6’ 2 ¾”) for third and fourth, respectively.

Many Blugolds landed in the top four on the track side, as well. Justin White (Fr.-Arcadia) was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash on a 50.58 time. Grant Haugan (So.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) had a 51.59 time for fourth. Brian Christ (Jr.-Arcadia) was the other Blugold runner-up, completing the 400-meter hurdles in 56.13.

Chris Wirtz (Fr.-Weston/Schofield D.C. Everest) and Ted Lillie (Jr.-North St. Paul, MN) finished back-to-back in the 1500-meter run with times of 4:06.13 and 4:07.68. Wirtz took third and Lillie grabbed fourth.

Nick Aliota (Sr.-Brookfield/Central) had a 15.55 third-place 110-meter hurdles race. Joey Veriga (Sr.-Cudahy) also nabbed a third-place finish with a 1:58.79 800-meter run.

Some will head to the Falcon Open on Friday while others will travel to the UW-Oshkosh Invite.
