MEN'S TRACK TAKES FIFTH AT POINTER QUALIFIER

STEVENS POINT - Today at the Pointer Qualifier, the UW-Eau Claire men's track team took fifth out of 13 schools with a 68.5 score.

UW-Oshkosh took the top spot with 152 points. The runner up UW-Stevens Point squad had 125.5. Third went to the 77.5 point UW-Platteville team while UW-Stout managed 72.5 points for fourth.

Joey Veriga (Jr.-Cudahy) took second in the 800-meter run with a 1:57.14 time, making for the best Blugold finish of the day.

Several other Blugolds took fourth. Nick Aliota (Jr.-Brookfield/Central) had an 8.05 55-meter hurdle dash. In the 400-meter dash, Adam Koger (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) took fourth on a 50.70 effort. Wes Fischer (Fr.-Rosemount, MN) ran a 1:57.43 800-meter run to place two spots behind Veriga. Ted Lillie (So.-North St. Paul, MN) and his 8:53.94 race in the 3000-meter run put him in fourth and Mark Sanders (Fr.-Hammond/St. Croix Central) ran a 16:20.02 5000-meter run to join the fourth place crew.

The next meet for the team is an important one as it is the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Conference Championships. The championships take place next Friday and Saturday in Stevens Point.
