THIRD TOP PLACE MEET IN A ROW FOR MEN'S TRACK

MENOMONIE - The UW-Eau Claire men's track team took the Blue Devil Open today out of nine teams with a 233.50 display.

Following the Blugolds was the home team with 195.50. In third were the UW-River Falls Falcons at 78.50. Fourth-place St. Scholastica and fifth-place Northwestern College had scores of 22 and 18 respectively.

Of the past five meets, the men's team has taken four in an incredibly successful early season. These fantastic finishes include the UW-Whitewater Invite, the Warren Bowlus Open and the Border Battle.

There were numerous outstanding Blugold efforts and many took first. Of the 16 events, Eau Claire won seven.

In the 55-meter dash, Chris Kupfer (Fr.-Germantown) ran a 6.56 first-place race. Nick Aliota (Jr.-Brookfield/Central) was the 200-meter dash champ in 22.73. Adam Koger (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) and his 51.69 400-meter dash bested all others for first. In the 800-meter run, Adam Wolfe (So.-Marshfield) captured the top spot on a 1:58.55 effort.

In longer events, Ted Lillie (So.-North St. Paul, MN) was the fastest participant in the 1-mile run on a 4:31.46 pace. He had several Blugolds breathing down his neck, as did Wolfe in the 800.

Eau Claire took care of business in the field events as well. In the men's long jump, Dan Roemhild (So.-Fall Creek) made a leap of 6.60 meters (21'8") to win. Brent Tice (Sr.-Colfax) put together a 15.03 meter (49'3 ¾") toss in the shot put for a Blugold victory in that event.

The Blugold triumph was so great that even the coach couldn't miss out on the action. Coach Chip Schneider ran the 400-meter dash and took second, showing that even the Blugold coaches had a successful day.

Not much rest is in store for Eau Claire, as the team travels to Oshkosh to participate in tomorrow's UW-Oshkosh Invite. It begins at 10:00 a.m.
