MEN'S TRACK EDGES OUT ST. THOMAS TO COMPLETE SWEEP

NORTHFIELD, MN - An Eau Claire sweep of St. Olaf's Border Battle occurred when the UW-Eau Claire men's track team matched the place of the women's team as it scored 175.0 points to just get by the St. Thomas Tommies.

St. Thomas followed Eau Claire with a too-close-for-comfort score of 167.0. UW-Stout and St. Olaf tied for third at 131.0. It is the second close call for the Blugolds in a row. Eau Claire just beat out Stout at the Warren Bowlus Open, winning by 2.50 points.

A Tostrud Center record was broken when Ted Lillie (So.-North St. Paul, MN) ran an 8:52.97 3000-meter run to take first. The previous record was 8:56.53, set in 2003 by Tom Kreger of Hamline.

Other notable Blugold finishes occurred on the day, as well. Matt Crosby (Fr.-Glenwood City) had a 7.91 race in the 55-meter hurdles to take first. Dan Roemhild (So.-Fall Creek) was the long jump champ with a showing of 6.18 meters.

The relay team also added to the Eau Claire victory with an 800-meter relay race of 1:30.67.

This is the third top place finish for the men's team as they won the Blugold Open and the Warren Bowlus Open. The only other race on the successful early season, besides the Badger Classic, was a fourth place UW-Whitewater Invite.

The Blugolds look to further that success Friday when they travel to Menomonie for the UW-Stout Invite. A 4:00 p.m. start time is scheduled.
