MEN'S TRACK OVERCOMES 11 TEAMS IN FOURTH PLACE FINISH

WHITEWATER - After splitting up and taking first and second in the Blugold Open last week, the UW-Eau Claire men's track team competed as one to take fourth out of 15 teams today at the UW-Whitewater Invite.

The team tallied 82 points for the fourth place finish. Whitewater gave the home crowd some excitement as it took first with a 192.33 day. UW-Platteville followed them with a 116 and UW-Stevens Point took third while compiling 101.66 points. The fifth team was the 35 point Carthage College squad.

The highest places of the night went to Chris Kupfer (Fr.-Germantown) and Micah Hernandez (Sr.-Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran). Both took second in their event. Kupfer was runner-up with a 6.60 55-meter dash. In the 5000-meter run, Hernandez ran a 15:34.17 performance.

In addition, there were several Blugolds who broke the top five. Brian Christ (So.-Arcadia) finished third in the 200-meter dash with a 23.17 showing. Two more top-five runners in the 5000-meter run helped Eau Claire gain many points in that event. Kevin Hall (Fr.-Green Bay/Preble) ran it in 15:40.69 to nab fourth while Jules Miller (So.-Green Bay/East) rounded out the top five with a 15:44.01 effort. The 7.99 55-meter hurdle dash of Nick Aliota (Jr.-Brookfield/Central) was good enough for fourth. In the pole vault, Josh Boehm (So.-Mosinee) tied for fifth with 4.18 meters. Finally, Eric Eigenfeld (Jr.-DeForest) claimed third in the triple jump on 13.36 meters.

The team performed well in relays, as well. The 'A' team took fourth in the 4x200-meter relay and third in the 4x400-meter relay. It had times of 1:36.15 and 3:26.77, respectively. The team's 10:44.91 display in the distance medley paid off for second place.

Up next for Eau Claire is the Warren Bowlus Open in Menomonie next Saturday. It begins at 11:00 a.m.
