MEN'S TRACK BEGINS SEASON AT BADGER CLASSIC
MADISON - The UW-Eau Claire men's track team kicked off its 2006 season at the Badger Track Classic held today at the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center. The University of Wisconsin won 10 of the 16 events that took place. The Blugolds had one winner on the day; Al Oleson (Jr.-Wausau, WI/West) took top honors in the shot put, throwing 14.97 meters. In the 200-meter dash, Nick Aliota (Jr.-Brookfield, WI/Central) and freshman Chris Kupfer (Fr.-Germantown, WI) finished second and third respectively for the Blugolds. Aliota also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles. Another Blugold freshman Kevin Hall (Fr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble) finished second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:17.53. In the long jump, Dan Roemhild (So.-Fall Creek, WI) placed third with a jump of 6.45 meters. Ted Lillie (So.-North St. Paul, MN) was the top finisher for the Blugolds in the one-mile run, as he finished fourth out of 24 runners with a time of 4:37.91. Joseph Veriga (Jr.-Cudahy, WI) finished fourth for the Blugolds in the 600-meter run and freshman Weston Fischer (Fr.-Rosemount, MN) also finished fourth in the 800-meter run. The 1600-meter relay team of Kupfer, Brian Christ (So.-Arcadia, WI), B.J. Brossard (So.-Green Bay, WI/Southwest), and Grant Haugan (Fr.-Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) finished fourth with a time of 3:32.20. The Blugolds will host the Blugold Open next Friday night at Ade Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center. The action is set to begin at 4 p.m. Badger Classic results - JR -
