SCHUNA, STAFSLIEN TAKE THIRD AT NATIONALS
DECATUR, Ill. - John Schuna (Jr.-Hudson) took third in the shot put and Jen Stafslien (Jr.-Onalaska/West Salem) took third in the 100-meter hurdles today at the final day of the 2004 NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Schuna had his best throw of the year with a toss of 58-6 ½ feet (17.84 meters) to better the old Lindsay Stadium record to finish third. McMurry's Cody Brotherton took first with a throw of 59-1 ½ feet (18.02 meters).
Stafslien had her best time of the year at 14.60 seconds in the preliminaries yesterday to advance to the finals today. Stafslien ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.86 seconds today with the wind against her to finish third. Carthage's Sheana Grigsby took first with a time of 14.33 seconds.
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member UW-La Crosse took first in the men's competition by a large margin scoring 101 points compared to second place Nebraska Wesleyan's 19. Fellow WIAC member UW-Oshkosh took first in the women's competition with 57 points edging out Calvin College's 54.3 points.
