MEN’S TENNIS FINISHES REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN

OSHKOSH, Wis. – After losing its first meet since March 1 last night, the UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team bounced back to take home a 7-2 victory over UW-Oshkosh at the YMCA Tennis Center today.

The meet against Oshkosh is the final regular season contest for the Blugolds this season. Eau Claire improved to 25-4 on the season with the win, while Oshkosh dropped to 9-12.

The Blugolds swept the Titans in singles play today. Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) and Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) both won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Erik Brandner (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) allowed only three points at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) needed three sets to take the victory at No. 6, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Both Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) and Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) needed to score seven points to capture their wins. Fawcett won 7-6, 7-5 at No. 3, while Olson won 7-6, 7-6 at No. 4.

Lantz and Loprinzi were the only doubles pair for the Blugolds to pick up a victory today. The No. 1 duo defeated Oshkosh’s Todd Fuller and Brian Naidicz 8-4.
