MEN’S TENNIS WINS THREE WITH SPLIT TEAM

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team took home three victories today, playing one meet in Rock Island, Illinois and two in Mequon, Wisconsin.

In the first meet today, the Blugolds defeated St. Ambrose in Rock Island 8-1. The only match the Blugolds dropped was at No. 2 singles, with Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) falling in three sets, 7-5, 1-6, 10-4. All the other matches were won in straight sets. Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) did not allow a point at No. 1 singles, defeating Kyle Wood 6-0, 6-0.

The other half of the Blugolds’ team was in Mequon. Eau Claire defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering 9-0 in the first meet of the day, and followed that with 9-0 win over Concordia (Wis.) later in the day. All of the matches were won in straight sets. Brett Burleigh (Fr.-Verona, Wis.) only gave up one point in two matches at No. 3 singles, while Brian Mixtacki (So.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) gave up only two playing at No. 6 singles.

Up next the Blugolds will head to Oshkosh for three more meets next Friday and Saturday to finish up the regular season. They will face La Crosse Friday at 3:30 p.m. and will follow that with a 9 a.m. match against Oshkosh and 1p.m. meet against Whitewater Saturday.
