MEN’S TENNIS DOWNS ST. NORBERT

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team took down St. Norbert College 9-0 tonight in the Ade Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center.

The Blugolds have now won seven of their last eight meets and have an overall record of 8-2 this season. St. Norbert is now 2-4 after the loss to the Blugolds.

Playing at No. 1 singles tonight, Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Century) picked up a win in straight sets, giving up only two points on his way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) had a tough match at No. 2 singles, his first match of the season at No. 2, but was able to pull off the win 7-5, 6-4. He is now 11-1 on the season. Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, MN/Mayo), Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) and Aaron Johnson (Fr.-Elk River, MN) also picked up wins in straight sets at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Brett Burleigh (Fr.-Verona, Wis.) would need a super-tiebreaker to defeat his opponent 6-3, 6-7, 10-6 at No. 5 singles. Burleigh is now 7-1 on the season.

In doubles play, Lantz and Loprinzi took down St. Norbert’s Adrian Acosta and Ryan Kerswill in a close match. The Eau Claire duo won 8-6 and is now 7-2 this season at the No. 1 doubles spot. Fawcett and Lars Olson also won 8-6 tonight at No. 2 doubles and now have a season record of 4-1. C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/Apple Valley) and Johnson played together at No. 3 doubles and took an 8-5 victory. They remain undefeated with a 3-0 record at No. 3 doubles.

Eau Claire will now face Lawrence University at 8 a.m. Saturday and will follow that with a meet against Bethel University at 4 p.m. The two meets will be the final home events of the season for the Blugolds.
