MEN’S TENNIS BEATS ST. NORBERT FOR WEEKEND SWEEP
GREEN BAY – The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team completed its sweep of Midwest Conference opponents by defeating St. Norbert College 6-3 here today at the Western Racquet Club. The win improves the Blugolds to 8-5 on the season winning three meets in a row and eight of their last 10. St. Norbert falls to 2-5 on the year. The Blugolds won four of six singles matches led by Steve Lantz (So.-Rochester, MN/Century) who won a first set tie-breaker, lost the second set than came back to win third at No. 2 singles over Andrew Winters 7-6 (10-8), 2-6, 6-3. Aaron Nordenskjold (Sr.-Red Wing, MN) continued the three-set fever by defeating Adrian Acosta 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Erik Brandner (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) lost just one game at No. 4 singles to beat Nate Tackaberry 6-1, 6-0. Phil Loprinzi (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) followed Brandner’s lead defeating Eddie Wire in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action the team of Nordenskjold/Loprinzi beat Acosta/Wire 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Jeff Peterson (Sr.-Edina, MN) and Brandner closed out doubles action with an 8-2 victory over Schmitz/Tackaberry at No. 3 doubles 8-2. The Blugolds return home to host the YMCA Tournament March 9-11.
