MEN’S TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH TWO LOSSES
EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team opened the 2007 season on the road falling to Division II St. Cloud State (MN) 6-3 before traveling to Collegeville, Minnesota where the Blugolds lost a hard-fought dual with St. John’s 5-4. Against the Huskies the Blugolds earned two singles wins from Aaron Nordenskjold (Sr.-Red Wing, MN) and Brett Gressick (Jr.-De Pere). Nordenskjold defeated Kevin Lukens at No. 3 singles 5-7, 6-4, (11-9) while Gressick defeated Ryan Schoenenfeld 2-6, 6-4 (10-5) at No. 6 singles. The team of C.J. Rose (Jr.-Lakeville, MN/Roseville) and Jeff Peterson (Sr.-Edina, MN) defeated the pairing of Ronning/Schoenefeld at No. 3 doubles 8-4 in the Blugolds’ lone doubles victory. Against the Johnnies the Blugolds scored three singles victories led by Tim Eisele (Jr.-Apple Valley, MN) defeating Trevor Beach 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Nordenskjold won his second singles match of the day defeating Neil Koehler at No. 3 singles 3-6, 6-2 (10-7). Gressick also remained perfect in singles play on the day defeating Eric Holmgren at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-2. Eisele and partner Phil Loprinzi (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) won their match at No. 1 doubles taking out the team of Beach/Dan Ruehl 8-5. The Blugolds will continue play tomorrow when they face Concordia-Moorhead and St. Scholastica in St. Cloud.
