SWIMMING AND DIVING TAKE ON DIVISION I COMPETITORS AT FALCON INVITE

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams went up against stiff competition in the first day of UW-River Falls’ Falcon Invitational.

Schools including the University of Minnesota, University of South Dakota and University of North Dakota, among many others, fielded teams. Eau Claire still found itself in the top 15 several times.

Two individuals made their way to the top times. Angie Bakula (Fr.-Appleton/West) finished the 500-yard freestyle in 5:25.16 to take 14th. Amanda Kroger (Sr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) was one spot behind her at 5:27.08.

In women’s relays, the squad of Megan Lindner (Fr.-Muskego), Missy Kleist (So.-Eau Claire/North), Bakula and Ann Grossklaus (So.-Wausau/West) nabbed 12th in the 200-yard freestyle relay on a 1:44.32 time. Randi Osgood (Fr.-Muskego), Jenna Spicer (Jr.-Hastings, MN), Emily Diehl (Sr.-Prairie du Sac/Sauk Prairie) and Megan Finley (Fr.-Waunakee) swam a 1:45.69 race for 15th.

For the men’s relays competition, Bruce Eigner (Fr.-Eau Claire/North), Matt Schultz (So.-Oakdale, MN/North), Brett Olsen (So.- New Berlin/West Allis Hale) and Pat Finley (Jr.-Waunakee) teamed up for a 1:31.09 200 freestyle race. They took 13th.

The meet concludes tomorrow at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
