SWIMMING AND DIVING COMPLETE GET TO THE POINT INVITE

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams completed the final day of competition at the 2008 Get to the Point Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point today.

The women’s team finished with 205 points in its seventh place finish out of eight teams. Whitewater finished in last place with 175. Taking the meet was the University of North Dakota, accumulating 866.5 points, followed by UW-La Crosse which scored 732. Stevens Point took third with 577 points.

On the men’s side, the Blugolds finished in seventh out of seven teams, scoring 231 points. Whitewater edged the Blugolds in its sixth place finish, scoring 244. The University of North Dakota also won on the men’s side with 807 points. Stevens Point finished in second place with 732 while Gustavus Adolphus scored 683.5 points, good enough for a third place finish.

In the day’s two diving events, Eau Claire had fourth, 10th and 11th place finishers. In the men’s three-meter dive, Brian Dykstra (Jr.-Racine, Wis./Horlick) took fourth with 432.25 points. Sam Wojta (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Central) also placed tenth in the event with 319.45 points. On the women’s side in the one-meter dive, Sarah Myers (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) scored 324.60 points for her 11th place finish.

In the men’s 400-yard individual medley, Jon Poppele (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) took a ninth place spot with a time of 4:30.04. He also finished with a time of 2:04.36 in the 200-yard backstroke for a seventh place finish.

Alyssa Trainor (Fr.-Winona, Minn./Cotter) was the top women’s finisher today, taking eighth place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:17.74. Mari Bodensteiner (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) also competed well in the event, taking a tenth place spot with a time of 2:18.21. In the 200-yard freestyle, Angie Bakula (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./West) took tenth place with a time of 2:01.53.

The women also had a relay team of Bakula, Megan Finley (Fr.-Waunakee, Wis.), Megan Lindner (Fr.-Muskego, Wis.) and Ann Grossklaus (So.-Wausau, Wis./West) that finished in tenth place with a time of 3:50.13 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Eau Claire hosts its final meet of the season next Saturday when they take on UW-Whitewater in a conference dual meet. The day’s events will begin at 1 p.m. It will also be senior and parents’ day.
