MEN'S HOCKEY LOSES TO ST. NORBERT
GREEN BAY, Wisc. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey team lost to St. Norbert today at the Resch Center by a 2-1 score. St. Norbert scored in both the first and second periods before Eau Claire got on the board. The Blugolds ended the season last year with a 3-1 loss to St. Norbert in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Peters Cup Quarterfinals. St. Norbert got on the board with a goal by Sam Tikka, assisted by Steven Sleep, at the 8:18 mark. That was the only goal of the first period. The Blugolds held the Green Knights until 2:39 left in the second period. Marc Belanger scored on a Shane Wheeler assist to make the score 2-0. The Blugolds would score in the third period. Andrew Johnson (Jr.-Andover, MN/Anoka) scored on a Jesse Vesel (Jr.-Hibbing, MN) and Greg Petersen (Jr.-Maple Grove, MN/Totino-Grace) assist. Johnson scored his goal at the 7:28 mark in the third period. The Blugolds had two attempts at a power play goal compared to St. Norbert’s eight chances at a power play goal. Tyler Brigl (So.-Eagan, MN) was in the net tonight for the Blugolds. Brigl had 24 saves. The Blugolds were outshot tonight 28-24. The Blugolds had eight penalties totaling 16 minutes. St. Norbert had two penalties for four minutes. Up next for the Blugolds is UW-River Falls. The Blugolds travel to River Falls on Friday, November 30.
