MEN’S HOCKEY COMES BACK TO FORCE TIE
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Down 2-0 going into the third period, the UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey team put together a pair of scores to get its first tie of the season. The first of the two goals came at 7:40 in the third off the stick of John Kearns (Fr.-Park Ridge, IL). Eau Claire looked like it was going to lose 2-1 for the second straight night, but Sean Garrity (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN/North) found net with seven seconds to play to force overtime. Tyler Trudell (So.-Waukesha/South) assisted on the power play goal. Both teams had three shots in the extra session with none getting past the goalie. Eau Claire’s record is 5-7-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) and 9-14-1 overall. The Saints are 4-7-2 and 9-12-3. The Blugolds didn’t have an overtime game all season until yesterday, but then had two in a row. St. Scholastica’s first goal of the night was at 14:01 in the first and the second came at 9:58 in the second. Tyler Brigl (So.-Eagan, MN) made 17 saves as Eau Claire outshot the Saints 37-to-19. The second period saw the Blugolds put up 16 shots while St. Scholastica had just three. There were five Eau Claire penalties and eight Saints ones. The Blugolds went 1-for-7 on the advantage while St. Scholastica went 0-for-5. Next Saturday is the last game of the season.
