MEN’S GOLF FINISHES FOURTH AT GORDIN COLLEGIATE CLASSIC
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s golf team competed against teams from all over the country this past weekend at the Members Club in Myrtle Beach, SC. The team made a solid showing on both days shooting a 294 on the first day and 296 on the second day. After the first day the team found itself in second place, but by the end of the second day the team combined to shoot 590 (+22) on the weekend which landed them a fourth place finish. The Blugolds finished behind first place Oglethorpe University (Ga.), second place Rhodes College (Tenn.) and third place Huntingdon College (Ala.). Peter Wendt (Sr.-Lake Mills, WI) turned in the best performance by a Blugold golfer firing a 75 on the first day and 69 on the second day. Wendt’s efforts and total score of 144 were good enough to earn him a third place tie with three other golfers. Aaron Nelson (So.-River Falls, WI) was also a key contributor to the Blugolds' success this weekend. Nelson finished in a tie for 10th place with a total score of 147 thanks to rounds of 71 and 76. Derek Bauer (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, MN/Eagan) finished only one stroke behind Nelson on the weekend with a score of 148. Bauer shot a 73 on the first day of competition and a 75 on the second day. Mason Milner (Sr.-Onalaska, WI) and Ben Ziemann (So.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) were the fourth and fifth place finishers for the Blugolds this weekend with scores of 151 and 159, respectively. This was the last event of the fall season for the UWEC men’s golf team which will return to links and resume competition next spring. Final Results - TT -
