MEN’S GOLF FINISHES IN NINTH PLACE

JORDAN, Minn. – After finishing day one of The Bobby King Invitational in tenth place, the UW-Eau Claire men’s golf team moved up one spot on the final day of play to grab a ninth place finish.

The tournament was won by St. John’s University (Minn.) with a team score of 871. Second place belonged to the host school Gustavus College (Minn.) with a score of 896. In third place, Luther College (Iowa) finished with a stroke total of 911. Moving into fourth place on the final day of play was St. John’s Blue (Minn.) with a final score of 925. Rounding out the top five for the second consecutive day was UW-Stout with a score of 926. The ninth place Blugolds finished with a score of 940.

Pete Wendt (Sr.-Lake Mills, WI) finished the tournament with his best round of the tournament shooting a 73 on the par 72 course at The Ridges at Sand Creek. Wendt finished in sixth place in the individual competition with a final score of 221. First place was won by St. John’s Matt Bohlig. Bohlig shot a total of 212 in the three rounds. A Johnnie took second place as well as Joe Schoolmeesters shot a 214, and not to be outdone by his teammates Jeff Nechas of St. Johns Blue took third.

As for the other Blugold golfers, Derek Bauer (Sr.-Inner Grove Heights, MN/Eagan) finished in a tie for 35th place with a total of 238 and Aaron Nelson (So.-River Falls, WI) finished only one stroke behind Bauer with a 239. Mason Milner (Sr.-Onalaska, WI) finished with a 244, and Ben Zieman (So.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) shot a 251.

The Blugolds will travel to Rochester, New York on Friday to compete in The Oak Hill Tournament. The Tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday.
