DAY ONE OF GORDIN COLLEGIATE COMPLETE FOR MEN'S GOLF

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. - Ohio Wesleyan University's two-day Gordin Collegiate is through its first day and the UW-Eau Claire golf squad finds itself in tenth place out of 12 teams on the Deer Track Golf Resort.

The 311 strokes by Eau Claire is 20 behind the leading score of 291 by Guilford College. Emory University and Huntingdon are tied for second at 298. At an even 300 is fourth place Methodist College. Oglethorpe University is behind Methodist College by one stroke. The other school within our region is St. John's, who shot 302 for sixth.

The leading Blugolds tied for 29th place. Derek Bauer (So.-Eagan, MN/Indian Hills CC, IA) and Derek Pirkl (Sr.-Stoughton) golfed 77 for the day to earn their spots. Mike Greer (Jr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) finished day one in 39th with a 78 day. At 79 strokes and in 45th place is Peter Wendt (So.-Lake Mills). Mason Milner (So.-Onalaska) hit an 80 and ended up in 48th. Par is 72 and the leader is at 68.

Tomorrow the event concludes in South Carolina.
