MEN'S GOLF MOVES UP IN SECOND DAY OF INVITE

LINCOLN, NE - The UW-Eau Claire golf team moved up from a tie for eighth to a tie for fifth with 608 score on the second and final day of the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational.

The Blugolds had the second best score of the day with a 301 to cause their move up. The best score of the day was winning Guilford College's 293. Guilford College won with 591 strokes. Nebraska Wesleyan University was second with 598, while Emory University was third at 600. Greensboro College took the four spot by shooting 605, with Eau Claire and LaGrange College tying for fifth as both hit 608. There were 14 total teams competing.

All Blugolds made a good showing and finished in the top 40 for the invite. Mike Greer (Jr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) led with 151 strokes and a one over par on day two to tie him for 12th. Cody Peterson (Fr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi) was right on his heels as he tied for 14th with his 152. Ryan Brockhaus (Jr.-Mayville) shot a 154 which earned him a tie for 24th. Tyler Leis (Jr.-Reedsburg) hit 155 as he claimed a tie for 29th and Derek Pirkl (Sr.-Stoughton) rounded out the squad with a 157 and a tie for 38th. Par for the course was 142 over the two days.

The next event for the Blugolds is at home with the 14-team Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate on Sunday and Monday.
