GYMNASTICS TO HOST EAU CLAIRE INVITE FRIDAY

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The annual UW-Eau Claire gymnastics invitational will take place Friday night in the McPhee Physical Education Center.

Joining the Blugolds at the invite will be three of the best teams from around the country. Defending National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) champion UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse and Hamline University will be in attendance. UW-La Crosse placed third at nationals last season and has won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championship the last 11 years, while Hamline University placed fifth at nationals last year. La Crosse had also won the national championship six straight times before last year’s third place finish.

Fifth-year Blugold head coach Jean DeLisle brings back good experience with four seniors on this year’s team. Three-time All-American and one-time national champion Theresa Lynch (Sr.-Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear) leads the charge for Blugolds. Kristi Olson (Sr.-Minnetonka, Minn.), who also has nationals experience as an all-around competitor, and Lynch will be captains for this year’s team.

Warm-ups begin at 4:25 p.m. and competition is set for 6 p.m. with four rotations in four events: vault, bars, beam and floor. The theme this season will be “Welcome to the Jungle.”
