LYNCH EARNS SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICA HONORS

WHITEWATER – UW-Eau Claire junior Theresa Lynch (Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear) earned second team NCGA All-America honors after finishing 10th in the balance beam competition at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association championships at Kachel Gym on the UW-Whitewater campus Saturday.

Lynch scored 9.125 in the finals of the balance beam after qualifying third with a 9.4 Friday. MIT’s Julia Zimmerman won the event with a 9.7.

Lynch, who missed several meets this year with an injury, won the national championship in floor exercise last year but was unable to qualify in that event. She had qualified on the uneven parallel bars and balance beam this year.

For the first time this year, the results from Friday’s prelims and Saturday’s finals were not combined to determine final places. Only Saturday’s competition determined final places. The first six finishers were named to the All-America first team and the second six to the second team.
