BLUGOLD GYMNASTS HIT SEASON HIGH

EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Eau Claire women’s gymnastics team achieved a season high score but lost a dual meet to Gustavus Adolphus in the McPhee Phy Ed Center Friday night.

Gustavus scored a 179.15 to 176.45 for the Blugolds whose previous best this season was a 174.425.

Amber Dorholt (So.-Mound, MN/Westonka) scored a career high 9.375 on vault to give the Blugolds their only individual win of the night. Vault was the only event in which the Blugolds outscored Gustavus as a team as well with four of the top five scores.

Kristi Olson (Jr.-Minnetonka, MN) and Angie Cich (Jr.-Plymouth, MN/Armstrong) both achieved season best all-around scores to help the Blugolds reach their best team score. Olson was the top all-around in the meet with a 36.375 while Sutherland was third with a 35.275. Their previous bests were 34.975 and 33.375, respectively.

Olson’s individual results included a second in floor exercise (9.425), a second on the uneven parallel bars (8.80), a tie for third in vault (9.150) and a fourth on beam (9.00). Sutherland had a tie for third on vault (9.15), a fifth on floor (9.275) and a sixth on beam (8.70).

Other top five finishes by the Blugolds included a fifth by Andi Rude (Sr.-Onalaska) on the vault (9.10), a fifth by Leah Gilseth (So.-Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) on the beam (8.90) and a fifth by Kendra Funk (Fr.-Mound, MN/Westonka) on the unevens.

The Blugolds will compete at Hamline in a dual meet next Friday and conclude the regular season with a dual at UW-Oshkosh on March 2.
