GYMNASTS BEGIN SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER RIVAL STOUT

MENOMONIE - The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team started off the year well by defeating I-94 rival UW-Stout tonight 168.525-162.950.

The Blugolds Lynn Morris (Sr.-Monticello, IN/Twin Lakes) finished in first for two events and had the best all-around score of the dual meet. Morris had the top score on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.075 and on the balance beam scoring an 8.800. Her top all-around score was 34.975.

Theresa Lynch (So.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear) finished in first place in floor exercise with a 9.150. Kristi Olson (So.-Minnetonka, MN) had the highest score for the Blugolds in the vault, finishing second with a 9.175.

The Blugolds are now 1-0 in dual meets this season and 1-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). UW-Stout drops to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC.

The Blugolds next meet will be the Eau Claire Invite on Saturday, January 14th. Gustavus Adolphus, Hamline University, and UW-Whitewater will all compete. The action gets underway at 1 p.m. in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
