Baccalaureate Portfolio

The Baccalaureate Web Portfolio is one of the components of the Plan for Assessment of Student Academic Achievement that was initiated in conjunction with a redefinition of the baccalaureate degree in the early 1990s. This redefinition produced 11 Baccalaureate Degree Goals and Outcomes for Student Learning, and the Baccalaureate Web Portfolio is one of several instruments for assessing student achievement of the baccalaureate goals.

Implemented in 1995 with a handful of participating classes, each subsequent year a larger group of freshmen were introduced to the portfolio project. Since the fall of 1998, all freshmen have been introduced to the portfolio through the FYE program or special orientation sessions. In 2004, UW-Eau Claire implemented the web-based portfolio which enables students to upload and store papers and projects on server space provided by the university.

The purpose of the Baccalaureate Web Portfolio is to provide for assessment purposes samples of students’ achievement of the baccalaureate goals. The design of the portfolio calls for students, over the course of their baccalaureate experience, to upload 12 types of papers or projects as examples of achieving the learning outcomes for specific baccalaureate goals.
