In 1994, the UW-Eau Claire faculty articulated the Goals of the Baccalaureate Degree as part of the redefinition of the baccalaureate degree. These broad statements for student learning received greater clarity in the Plan for Assessment of Student Academic Achievement with the addition of the student outcomes. These outcomes defined what students should know and be able to do at the conclusion of their baccalaureate experience.
Following the articulation of the goals and outcomes for student learning, the University Assessment Committee developed assessment procedures linked to the learning outcomes. The procedures—surveys, interviews, portfolios, and standardized exams—provide data to enable the University to answer the questions about student learning in terms of the goals and outcomes. The Baccalaureate Goals Progress Report presents to the campus the findings from the implementation of the assessment plan.
